So the Egyptian government has announced a 6:00pm curfew (that;’s in 15 mins as I type), the army has appeared on the streets, welcomed at least initially by demonstrators. Mubarak has asked the army to help police enforce the curfew, which is presumably why they’ve appeared now.

This must be the critical moment in this uprising. It seems to hang on which way the army decides to act. Bloodbath or Tunisian-style support for rebellion from Generals? The next hour will tell.

Well, it looks as though they are ignoring the curfew, and no army action so far. Mubarak to make a speech soon.

I saw that, Julia. I hate to tempt fate, but it seems OK so far…

Some anecdotal evidence coming in on Twitter that the army are supporting the protestors. Interesting development!

Very. I wonder how much the people on the streets want democracy and how happy they’d be with a military coup and a new President.
